New Wage Requirements Under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program

As of January 1, 2024, employers issued Labour Market Impact Assessments will be required to review their temporary foreign workers’ (“TFW”) wages each year to ensure they reflect increases to prevailing wage rates for their given occupation and region of work. These annual reviews and corresponding increases are intended to address changes in the Canadian economy while protecting TFWs in Canada.

Prior to this amendment, changes to most TFWs’ wages were restricted, which has generally been to the benefit of employers.
