Ryan handles bankruptcy, insolvency, and restructuring matters for secured lenders, trustees, receivers, insolvent corporations, and commercial landlords. Well-versed in assisting secured creditors in protecting their security interests and maximizing their return, he provides counsel on issues such as, personal property security priority disputes and post-judgment enforcement. Ryan particularly appreciates the dynamic nature of this practice area because it allows for negotiation and creativity but is ultimately driven by practical realities.

A strong litigator, Ryan also works in the trenches of commercial and restructuring litigation. He regularly counsels clients in collection, fraud, fraudulent transfer, and general litigation matters. Ryan’s extensive background in insolvency work frames his approach to addressing commercial litigation matters as he remains focused on how or if clients will be able to collect on judgment and what potential challenges they may face.

Ryan appears frequently in the Court of King’s Bench and has appeared before the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Alberta Court of Appeal, and various administrative bodies.
