Ashley understands both the legal and emotional dynamics of conflict. Her approach to conflict resolution is thoughtful, cost-effective, and efficient.
Ashley is an experienced litigator with a practice focusing on insurance defence and commercial litigation. She represents clients in serious personal injury matters, SEF 44 claims, fatalities, property loss, fires, floods, dog bites, product liability and minors' property settlements. Confident when faced with complex claims, Ashley has experience defending large corporations and has frequently been involved in multi-party litigation.
Ashley often acts as counsel for individuals facing professional liability actions. She is particularly adept investigating the underlying issues giving rise to the claim, obtaining expert evidence on the duty and standard of care applicable and resolving claims against professionals.
She advises and provides coverage analysis of automobile and commercial general liability policies, and directors' and officers' liability. She has provided coverage opinions on breaches of the Statutory Conditions, operating while impaired, operating without a license and the operation of the SEF 44 endorsement. Notably, she was involved in a coverage opinion leading to significant clarification in the apportionment of liability under Workers’ Compensation legislation.
Employers frequently turn to Ashley to handle workplace investigations. She is skilled in tailoring each investigation to her client’s business structure, workplace culture, and unique needs. She conducts investigations that are thorough and impartial, yet efficient and discrete.
Ashley remains committed to advocacy and negotiation that is constructive, fair, and achieves her client’s objectives. She has experience in all aspects of litigation, and has attended numerous settlement conferences, mediations, and Judicial Dispute Resolutions. Poised and assertive, she has appeared before all levels of the Alberta Courts as well as before the Alberta Securities Commission.
For over a decade, Ashley has put clients at ease by providing consistent, high-quality work. Law is a results-driven practice, and she takes her role as an advocate seriously. She spends the time required to learn the file as well as understand her client's goals. She applies her substantial legal knowledge to craft a strategy that achieves the preferred result, in the most cost-effective way.
Ashley believes in giving back to the community and has long been an active volunteer and board member. She is a member of the South Insurance Section of the Canadian Bar Association and is the former Chair of the Executive. She is also the Chair of the National Insurance Section of the Canadian Bar Association. She has volunteered at food banks within the City of Calgary since 2004 and has served food at the Mustard Seed for over ten years.
