Ashley is an experienced commercial litigator with a practice focusing on insurance defence, professional negligence, and workplace investigations.
She acts for insurance clients in serious personal injury matters, fatalities, SEF 44 actions, occupier’s liability claims, dog bites, fires, floods, social host claims, and complex property loss. Ashley has experience defending large corporations and has frequently been involved in multi-party litigation.
Insurers retain Ashley for coverage analysis of commercial general liability policies, automobile policies and various endorsements. Notably, she was involved in a coverage opinion leading to significant clarification in the apportionment of liability under Workers’ Compensation legislation.
Ashley often defends individuals facing professional liability actions. She carefully investigates the underlying issues giving rise to the claim, obtains expert evidence on the duty and standard of care applicable and resolves claims against professionals.
Employers frequently turn to Ashley to handle workplace investigations. She is skilled in tailoring each investigation to her client’s business structure, workplace culture, and unique needs. She conducts investigations that are thorough and impartial, yet efficient and discrete. Ashley has experience with investigations addressing discrimination, bullying, harassment, violence in the workplace, and reports through whistleblower legislation.
Ashley remains committed to advocacy and negotiation that is constructive, fair, and achieves her client’s objectives. Law is a results-driven practice, and she puts clients at ease by providing consistent, high-quality work, in a cost-effective way. Ashley has experience in all aspects of litigation, and has attended numerous settlement conferences, mediations, and Judicial Dispute Resolutions. Poised and assertive, she has appeared before all levels of the Alberta Courts as well as before the Alberta Securities Commission.
Ashley believes in giving back to the community and has long been an active volunteer and board member. She has acted as the Chair of the South Alberta Insurance Section and the National Insurance Section of the Canadian Bar Association.
