Rakhi has experience in excess of 10 years in the education law industry, specifically related to the Alberta education sector. Rakhi has a strong sense of the legal, political, and strategic considerations impacting school boards, and uses a critical lens when working on the complexity of education legal issues that exist. Rakhi has experience with matters before Alberta Courts, arbitration boards, the Alberta Human Rights Commission and other administrative tribunals.
PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS, AFFILIATIONS AND COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES
Rakhi provided legal services to large provincial education organizations and its individual members. In this setting, Rakhi provided advice in areas of education law, labour & employment law, contract law, privacy law, constitutional law, human rights law and legislative interpretation. Additionally, the role involved significant labour relations work focused on providing advice regarding collective bargaining and negotiating with unions.
Previously, Rakhi provided counsel to provincial government ministries, officials, and Ministers, which included providing detailed substantive input in the development and drafting of new legislation, including the formative Alberta Education Act. Additionally, Rakhi employed her expertise in the negotiation and drafting of a historic Memorandum of Understanding for First Nations Education in Alberta.
