Pat offers clients a unique and valuable resource by combining the perspectives of both internal and external counsel and turning that understanding into practical, effective results.
His strong business background includes working in-house as corporate counsel to a large mining contractor and significant experience in the oil sands industry. These experiences continue to shape his work as a strategic partner to clients. Pat understands the diverse commercial environments in which his clients operate and regularly supports businesses across Western and Northern Canada.
In addition to his extensive experience supporting public and private businesses, he also works with Indigenous governments, First Nation and Inuit development corporations, and Inuit-owned businesses. He brings a thoughtful and respectful approach to supporting Indigenous economic development. Through his Northern practice in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, Pat has built long-standing relationships with local partners and gained practical insight into the region’s unique regulatory and commercial environment.
Pat maintains a broad practice, supporting clients in a wide range of corporate and commercial transactions. He is also experienced in labour and employment matters, which enhances his commercial practice. His wide-ranging legal experience allows him to effectively assist a diverse clientele in overcoming complex legal challenges. He has advised clients with respect to business start-ups, corporate structuring, corporate reorganizations, commercial leasing and real estate, commercial financing, creating and implementing joint ventures, conducting commercial bid reviews, negotiating procurement contracts, and negotiating lending agreements. He works regularly with financial institutions in different aspects of their business, including lending and leasing.
Pat is exceptionally hardworking. While he appreciates the law, he is equally passionate about understanding the intricacies of a client’s business so he can position himself as a trusted resource. Never complacent, he works to become an integral part of his clients’ operations. He does not simply prepare academic briefs; he provides business-focused, practical solutions.
Outside of his practice, Pat is an active member of the Canadian Bar Association. He is also the Former Director and Vice President of the Board of the Personal Support Network and the current Director and Treasurer of the Wîhkwêntôwin School Fundraising Association. In addition, Pat serves as a board member for various private companies.
