Ed is a partner with McLennan Ross practicing in the areas of commercial, banking, corporate commercial securities and municipal law. His experience includes real estate transactions (commercial and residential), incorporations, foreclosures, municipal issues and acquisitions and sales of business.

Ed’s clients are from many sectors of the northern business community, including the diamond industry, industrial service providers, the transportation field and the energy sector. He has represented corporate and individual clients at all levels of court in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

Corporate Commercial Securities:

  • Acted for Nunavut Power Corporation (now Quiliq Energy Corporation) with respect to the issue of debentures for financing of long term debt; the negotiation of their general line of credit with a chartered bank, and with respect to general corporate matters including the completion of minutes and the conducting of board of director meetings.
  • Provides initial advice and follow-through services related to various joint ventures and partnerships established between aboriginal and non-aboriginal business groups.
  • Represent electric utilities on joint venture development of generating and transmission assets in Alberta and the Northwest Territories.
  • Mergers and acquisitions involving properties and businesses in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
  • Provide counsel and act as government representative in matters relating to oilsands development.
  • Involved in the set-up of many corporations when the NWT Development Corporation was set-up and worked with them from inception through to 2007.
  • Was involved in the establishment of the Nunavut Development Corporation and continues to perform work for companies that he set-up years ago.
  • Assisted a major corporate bank with its purchase of a business in Uluhaktok.

Commercial Litigation:

  • Represents the Northwest Territories Power Corporation before the Northwest Territories Supreme Court in actions concerning defective construction, insurance claims access to information and privacy issues and wrongful dismissal actions.


  • Acts for a number of banks and private lenders in foreclosure and security enforcement proceedings in Nunavut and the NWT.
