Blake has a breadth of experience in commercial litigation. He has worked on all natures of debt collections issues involving security claims, priority claims, secured recovery of vehicles or other serial number goods, and reciprocal judgment enforcement. He has done secured and unsecured debt recovery in the context of insolvent parties, bankruptcy, consumer proposals and also when competing with other secured parties. Blake also has experience in construction related collections such as lien claimants and other construction cases including contractual disputes, injunctive relief, breaches of fiduciary duty, negligent construction, builders’ lien claims, shareholder disputes and professional negligence claims.
In his insurance practice Blake represents a wide range of national and international insurers in relation to all forms of insurance related litigation. His insurance defence experience includes serious bodily injury claims, construction and fire losses, coverage opinions, directors’ and officers’ claims and inter-provincial coverage issues.
Blake’s employment law practice includes wrongful dismissal litigation, Workers’ Compensation matters, human rights complaints, fiduciary litigation, employment standards claims and disputes involving the enforcement of restrictive covenants. He also assists employers with employee discipline and termination, managing employee disability, conducting workplace investigations, and drafting employment contracts and policies.
Blake has acted as counsel in matters before the Alberta Provincial Court, the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench, the Alberta Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court of Canada, the WCB Appeals Commission, the Alberta Human Rights Commission, the AISH Appeals Secretariat, a number of other administrative bodies, and various alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
