Updated COVID Restriction Measures

On Thursday, November 12, 2020, Premier Kenney announced new measures, including certain temporary time limited restrictions, to target the spread of COVID-19.

While employers navigate these difficult times, it is crucial that workplaces have proper precautions and policies in place to ensure the safety of their employees and the lawful management of their workplace. These additional measures serve as a useful opportunity to assess your existing policies and practices and consult with legal counsel to ensure that your business is properly functioning to meet these new requirements and recommendations.

The following temporary measures are effective November 13-27, 2020:

Business/Activity

Restrictions

All restaurants, bars, lounges and pubs in regions under enhanced status

  • Liquor sales must cease by 10:00 p.m.
  • Business must close by 11:00 p.m.

Indoor group fitness classes, team sport activities and group performance activities (which includes group singing, dancing and theatre activities) in Edmonton and surrounding areas, Calgary and surrounding areas, Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray, Red Deer and Lethbridge

  • Absolute 2 week ban on these activities

 

It was also announced that effective November 13, 2020 the maximum number of attendees at wedding or funeral services is reduced to 50. This reduction will remain in place until further notice.

Premier Kenney and Chief Medical Officer Hinshaw also recommended the following precautions be taken:

  • All faith-based activities limit attendance to one-third capacity per service.
  • Residents should not hold social gatherings within their homes and should not plan social gatherings outside their community.
  • Employers in office settings should implement measures to reduce the number of employees in the workplace at one time.
