Parent and Grandparent Sponsorships

The Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP) is expected to reopen on January 4, 2016.

Generally, Canadians and Permanent Residents who are 18 years of age or older are eligible to sponsor their parents and grandparents. Individuals may be ineligible to sponsor if they have defaulted on court orders or sponsorship undertakings, are in prison, or have declared bankruptcy.

In 2015, the PGP’s 5,000 application limit was reached shortly after the program opened. Many applicants who submitted their applications in the first two weeks of January 2015 were ultimately turned away.

While the new Liberal Government has promised to double the number of accepted applications, that change has yet to occur.

We strongly recommend that interested applicants begin preparing their applications now to ensure that they are not turned away.
