Family Status Webinar

21-Nov-18

Changes to the Employment Standards Code this year increased the number of unpaid leaves to which employees are entitled for the purpose of allowing them to deal with family related issues. In the face of the new leaves, employers must not forget their ongoing and additional obligations to accommodate family status obligations pursuant to human rights legislation. This area of the law continues to evolve and expand and it is important for employers to know the current state of the law and understand what actually triggers an obligation to accommodate an employee requesting time off for family reasons. Being aware of these obligations helps employers evaluate whether accommodation is required and ensure that the necessary steps are followed to determine reasonable accommodation when a legitimate request is received.

Presented by Vicki Giles and Jessica Kruhlak, this webinar will provide attendees with the strategies and skills to recognize and respond to requests for family status accommodation.

Topics covered in this webinar include:

  • What is family status?
  • What is the extent of an employer's duty to accommodate?
  • Does the employee have a duty to "self-accomodate"?
  • How far is the employer required to go in accomodating an absence due to family status?

Who Should Attend: This webinar is designed for in-house counsel and labour relations, human resource, operations and finance professionals.

Date: Wednesday, November 21
